Duke Estate

At the the Duke Estate you can do a self-guided Walk on the Wild Side. When you are there it is like you are in another world. Rte. 206 is close by but you would never know it. All you hear are the sounds of birds and small animals and the rustle of the leaves in the trees. The only sign of the outside world that I saw while I was there was a plane flying overhead. These pictures were taken on a beautiful day in October 2007.

On the property is a hay barn. To me it looks more like a run down castle but I guess even the Duke's hay had to be stored elegantly. Only the walls are standing now. Doris Duke had statues placed within.

Delaware & Raritan Canal Tow Path

I finally took a walk on part of the Delaware & Raritan Canal tow path. I pass this area every day on my way to work but have never stopped to check it out. I parked at the Weston Causeway and headed north on the tow path.

I wasn't alone on my walk...

The second I snapped the picture he was gone. I waited for him to reappear but he must be camera shy.

I know that the canal runs along the Delaware River but I could never figure out how it came up through Rocky Hill and Millstone and then ended up in New Brunswick. I found this interactive map that shows where it turns to head north: http://www.dandrcanal.com/park_map03.html
